  Teaching management

Academic Principal, John Flood, and Director of Studies, Stephen Yates, have between them over 25 years experience in teaching English and in academic management. They are assisted by the Head of Resources plus a team of Senior Teachers and Course Directors all of whom have special responsibilities for different courses. This management structure ensures that a close and personal interest is continually taken in you and the progress you make.

Your teachers
The teachers at Churchill House are all qualified and are chosen for their experience and motivation. By giving interesting and varied lessons they encourage your learning of our language. Their enthusiasm and commitment ensures that you make maximum progress and they always give you help and advice when you need it. During your course you normally have a number of teachers to provide variety and keep your interest and motivation at the highest level.

Teaching methods
Churchill House has its own Training and Development Unit which means that we can take advantage of every new opportunity to improve our teaching. You therefore learn English using the most up-to-date and effective methods available.

Churchill House Module System
Our courses are based on the unique Churchill House Module System.

We offer 12 Modules at levels ranging from Module 1 (Complete Beginner) to Module 12 (Cambridge Proficiency pass). Each module is a self-contained course with sufficient work for an average learner to cover in 4 weeks.

Successive modules interlock to form a continuous pathway through the English language. Course books and learning materials are linked to the Module System so you benefit from a fully integrated learning programme.

"We have a permanent teaching staff of over 30, all of whom are qualified. Their professionalism and dedication to teaching English as a foreign language has given us one of the best academic records of any school in the country."
Allan Kelsall,
Deputy Director

Your level
You complete the English Ability Questionnaire and one of our special Assessment Tests.

On arrival at Churchill House you have an interview with your Course Director who uses the test and the interview to confirm which is exactly the best class for you. Because there are so many levels at Churchill House you are always studying with students of similar ability. Your class teachers and Course Directors have regular meetings and at the end of each 4 week Module there is a test. We are therefore able to keep a careful record of your progress and when necessary may decide you would benefit from a change of class.
