Summer Assistant Director of Studies
Based at: One of Churchill House School of English Language (CHSoEL) summer centre sites.
Position Reports to: Director of Studies.
Job Purpose Summary: To assist in the management of the academic team and to ensure the quality delivery of the academic programme.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
The Assistant Director of Studies is responsible to the Director of Studies and is responsible for:
• Teaching 15 hours of class spread over the mornings of five of seven days.
• Assisting in the Management of the academic team.
• Ensuring the quality of the delivery of the academic programme.
• Standing in for the Director of Studies whenever the Director of Studies is off duty or unavailable.
• Ensuring that the site's rules and regulations are maintained.
Hours of Work
Assistant Directors of Studies work six days out of seven. The nature of the job requires CHSoEL Assistant Directors of Studies to be flexible and willing to address situations whenever they arise. It may be the case the Assistant Directors of Studies will be assigned to different sites during their contract, depending upon which sites require assistance. It is also possible that Assistant Directors of Studies may be offered promotion to Director of Studies if the situation arises where cover is required and their performance has shown that they have the qualities (and qualifications) required.
Professional Development
Assistant Directors of Studies start on the first rung of the Company's Management Pay Scale. We aim to retain good staff by giving them excellent support from Head Office. Assistant Directors of Studies are employed with a view to them becoming Directors of Studies in the following or subsequent years, depending upon their performance.

Able to live-in at the Centre for the duration of the Centre's operational period. Able to work extended hours when necessary. Not restricted by family commitments. Ability to drive is preferred.

Experience
Throughout the summer, Assistant Directors of Studies are supported by their respective Directors of Studies to ensure that the resources required are available to implement the high standards of customer care that CHSoEL clients expect.
• Previous summer school residential experience.
• Previous experience of working with overseas students.
Qualifications
The role of Assistant Director of Studies requires:
• Degree level or above education.
• Recognised TEFL qualification: DELTA, DipTESOL, MA (or British Council recognised equivalents).
• Managerial qualifications and evidence of managerial training.
• A sound knowledge of MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Access) and their use.
Training
Assistant Directors of Studies will be given an induction on-site and receive on the job training.
Duties
Core duties include, but are not limited to:
• Site management.
o Assisting in ensuring the safety and well-being of all staff and clients.
o Liaising with the host institution's staff.
o Assisting in ensuring the conditions of use (the Service Agreement) are adhered to.
o Assisting in monitoring and limiting damage to the site and its furnishings and equipment.
o Any other duties reasonably delegated by the Director of Studies.
o Covering the Director of Studies when they are not available.
• People management.
o Assisting in the managing and motivating of the CHSoEL teaching team.
o Liasing with Group Leaders and ensuring that Group Leaders carry out their agreed commitments.
o Assisting in monitoring and maintaining discipline within the staff and students.
o Assisting in planning the use of the teaching HR resources to gain the maximum benefit for the students concerned.
o Any other duties reasonably delegated by the Director of Studies.
o Covering the Director of Studies when they are not available.
• Administration and teaching.
o Assisting in preparing staff rotas.
o Assisting in planning the academic timetable.
o Assisting in checking teachers' lesson plans and schemes of work.
o Assisting in monitoring and maintaining all paperwork and ensuring that it is submitted on or before the deadlines set by Head Office.
o Any other duties reasonably delegated by the Director of Studies.
o Covering the Director of Studies when they are not available.
