IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
Course Overview

IELTS is very widely recognised by universities in Britain and many other English-speaking countries. It is definitely the first test to think about if you want to study at a British university. IELTS tests your listening, reading, writing and speaking skills. The listening and speaking modules are the same for all candidates. However you can choose which reading and writing modules to take - the Academic modules are best if you are thinking of taking a university course. The General modules are suitable if you are going for secondary education in an English-speaking country, for work experience or immigration purposes.

We would recommend this exam for students with the following language level(s) – Intermediate and above.

 

Lessons

IELTS preparation classes are part of our elective course system. Students can have either 5 (1 elective course) or 10 hours  (2 elective courses) of extra lessons as a supplement to their General English course. Students receive two and a half hours of teaching time and a 20 minute coffee break during each elective class. Lessons take place from Monday to Thursday between 13:30 and 16:20 (times may be different during July and August).

 

Course Length & Start Dates

IELTS preparation courses are available throughout the year as part of our afternoon elective course system. The minimum course length is 2 weeks. There is no maximum course length.

Cambridge First Certificate (FCE)
Course Overview

The most popular Cambridge Examination, tests English at an Upper Intermediate level. We offer a 10 or 12-week course starting in January then 11 or 12-week courses starting in April and October. We also offer a 13-week First Certificate preparation course during the summer for those who require the intense exam preparation but who wish to take the exam in their own country, or at a later date.

We would recommend this exam for students with the following language level(s) – Intermediate and above.

 

Lessons

Our FCE preparation course includes up to 25 hours of lessons per week. Students receive 3 hours of teaching time and a 20 minute coffee break each weekday morning between 09:00 – 12:20 (times may be different during July and August). They also receive two and a half hours of teaching time and a 20 minute coffee break during each afternoon class. Afternoon lessons take place from Monday to Thursday between 13:30 and 16:20 (times may be different during July and August).

 

Course Length & Start Dates

Our start dates for this course are: 03/01-12/03 (10 wks) 27/03-08/06 (10 wks) 02/10-11/12 (10 wks). We also offer a 12 week preparation course starting on 3rd July for students that require the intense exam preparation but who wish to take the exam in their own country, or at a later date.

Cambridge Advanced (CAE)
Course Overview

For students whose level is between First Certificate and Proficiency, this examination takes place three times a year in March, June and December. Churchill House offers 10 or 12- week intensive courses starting in January, March and October.

 

English Level

We would recommend this exam for students with the following language level(s) – Advanced and above.

 

Lessons

Our CAE preparation course includes 25 hours of lessons per week. Students receive 3 hours of teaching time and a 20 minute coffee break each weekday morning between 09:00 – 12:20 (times may be different during July and August). They also receive two and a half hours of teaching time and a 20 minute coffee break during each afternoon class. Afternoon lessons take place from Monday to Thursday between 13:30 and 16:20 (times may be different during July and August).

Cambridge Proficiency (CPE)
Course Overview

This is the highest level, non-specialist Cambridge examination and is held twice a year in June and December. Churchill House offers 15 or 16-week courses starting in March and August.

We would recommend this exam for students with the following language level(s) – Advanced and above.

 

Lessons

Our CPE preparation course includes 25 hours of lessons per week. Students receive 3 hours of teaching time and a 20 minute coffee break each weekday morning between 09:00 – 12:20. They also receive two and a half hours of teaching time and a 20 minute coffee break during each afternoon class. Afternoon lessons take place from Monday to Thursday between 13:30 and 16:20.

TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication)
Course Overview

The Test of English for International Communication assesses the English of non-native speakers who use the language in their jobs. It is designed as a global tool that can be applied to any work environment where English is used. As a result, the exam is widely accepted by corporate human resource directors worldwide. Churchill House is an officially Approved Test Centre (by ETS) TOEIC exam centre. Preparation courses are available throughout the year as part of our afternoon elective course system.

Course Overview

The Key English Test is a basic level qualification used to show that students have made a good start to learning English. Preparation courses are available throughout the year as part of our afternoon elective course system.

The Cambridge Business English Certificates (BEC) Exam
Course Overview

The Business English Certificate exams range from the preliminary test, at an intermediate level, to the higher exam for advanced level students. All of the exams test the English level of students within the context of international business. Preparation courses are available throughout the year as part of our afternoon elective course system.

Course Objectives

  • To fully prepare students for the testing process prior to them sitting their exams
  • To help students achieve their best possible test result

Extra Information

  • All of our exam preparation courses are dependent on student demand. Should a course not reach the minimum number of students necessary for it to run adequately, the course will likely be cancelled. For more information, please use our contact us form to contact one of our sales agents
  • Our examination courses start at £200 per week. Please consult our main school price list located on the left hand side of this page for more details on pricing and course options
  • The minimum enrolment age for any exam preparation course is 16. Students aged between 16 and 17 will be considered as Young Adults - please click here to find out more about Young Adult courses.
  • The maximum class size on any exam preparation course is 14
  • The cost for the three highest exams in the Cambridge ESOL suite (Cambridge First Certificate FCE, Cambridge Advanced CAE or Cambridge Proficiency CPE) is approximately £120 - £127, although if students book the exam at the same time as they book their course the exam fee is included
  • For all other exams, a fee will apply to book and sit the examination. Fees range from approximately £120 - £150 depending on the test taken and the centre the student has chosen to sit the test in.   • For students that decide to take an exam after they arrive at the school, we have a senior teacher who can advise them on the best exam to take and the best dates to sit it. We can also help students to fill in any application forms they need to complete prior to sitting the exam
  • For exam preparation classes, the teacher will bring in all the class materials that students need
  • The school is closed on the following UK bank holiday dates in 2016 – 25/03, 28/03, 02/05, 30/05, 29/08, 25/12, 26/12 and 27/12
  • The school is closed from 17th December 2016 to 2nd January 2017 for this year’s Christmas holiday
