ISI inspection
In March 2012 we were inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI).
We are proud to announce that we achieved the highest of standards in all areas of the inspection which were:
- The quality of the curriculum, teaching and learners achievement
- Students’ welfare including health and safety
- The effectiveness of governance and management
The executive summary of that inspection is as follows
| Section of the standards | Grade awarded 1-4 |
|---|---|
| The quality of the curriculum, teaching and learners' achievement | 1 Exceeds expectations |
| Students' welfare, including health and safety | 1 Exceeds expectations |
| The effectiveness of governance, leadership and management | 1 Exceeds expectations |
The quality of the curriculum, teaching and learners’ achievement exceeds expectations.
Initial and diagnostic assessment is highly accurate and contributes strongly to optimising student progress. Appropriate courses of study are effectively planned from the outcome of this assessment and monitored closely. Informative support, guidance and care ensure students are well prepared for learning and the challenges they will face after leaving the school, leading to good outcomes for students. As a consequence, the number of withdrawals from the programmes is very low. Teaching is extremely effective in enabling students to learn.
Attainment and progress are a particular strength of the school, and examination results continuously improve. Delivery is very good and occasionally inspirational. Teachers have excellent knowledge of their subjects and use resources well, enabling students to make very good progress. Frequent, useful student feedback contributes to the development of excellent skills, knowledge and understanding that meet students’ needs and learning goals. The majority of students make progress well above what would be expected from their starting points.
Student welfare, including health and safety, exceeds expectations. Comprehensive policies for health and safety, first aid and safeguarding young adults are effectively implemented by management and staff. The premises manager is extremely diligent in monitoring all aspects of health and safety. All required documentation is in place, and procedures for minimising the risk of fire and for addressing first aid needs far exceed the required level of diligence.
The general upkeep, cleanliness and maintenance of the school are good. Meticulous records of student registration and attendance are kept and monitored effectively by senior managers and the UK Border Agency (UKBA) is informed promptly if necessary. Relationships between staff and students are excellent and the school prides itself on providing opportunities for students to mingle in a spirit of tolerance and interest in each other’s cultures. Students particularly comment on the ‘family atmosphere’ of the school and report feeling very happy and safe. Students express high levels of satisfaction with the homestay accommodation.
The effectiveness of governance, leadership and management exceeds expectations. The proprietor is sincere in his educational vision for the school, clearly communicating to his senior managers, whom he tasks with implementing this vision. Highly appropriate roles are established with clearly defined responsibilities and targets. Performance is closely monitored and focused support given where appropriate.
Quality assurance is guaranteed through close analysis of students’ views and the school is highly effective in identifying its strengths and weaknesses, with prompt action taken to address issues where appropriate. The school values its staff and ensures that well-qualified individuals are appointed.
