  Other important information

Pocket Money

Students often ask us how much spending money we think they need to bring with them. To help you decide we have asked our students to produce an information sheet which we send to all students who book a course, giving the current average price of common purchases like stamps, books and magazines,  train fares, toothpaste etc. For Homestay students we have also included a suggested amount per week for lunches (if you do not choose our full board option with lunches in our restaurant), coffee breaks, evening refreshments and extra social activities and trips. Naturally however, the amount you spend is up to you!

You can send us an amount for your personal expenditure together with your course fees if you wish, or hand it to us on arrival for safekeeping and then withdraw a sum each week (we highly recommend that juniors students do this). We can also advise you how to open a bank account in the UK if you are staying for 3 months or longer.

Students attending Residential Courses always have their pocket money looked after for them by the centre staff. They are each given a pocket money card and can withdraw money twice a week.

Transfers

When you book our Transfer Service from your point of arrival to the Summer School whether it is an individual taxi, a shared taxi or our shared coach service, you will be sent instructions before you arrive answering all the questions you may have: 'how will I meet the Churchill House representative?' 'what happens if my flight is delayed?' We tell you exactly what to do and where to go and also give you an emergency telephone number to call if necessary. Our taxi drivers and couriers are all known to us personally and are very experienced. We are happy to say we collect hundreds of students of all ages every year without any mishaps!

Linen/Laundry

Students on Homestay Courses do not need to bring any towels, sheets, etc. with them - everything is provided for you by your family and your personal laundry is also taken care of for you. Students on Residential Courses need to bring just their own towels with them.

Contacting Students

Students on Family Stay Courses can be contacted at the home of their host family.

Telephone messages can be left in the Summer School office for students on Residential Courses; they are then given assistance in using the telephone after lesson time to contact parents and relations in their home country.

Email messages can be sent to students and Summer School staff will ensure the messages reach the students promptly. (supervised internet access is available to all students)
